What is an ounce for liquids?

As ounces are the most common in the US and the UK, these countries have set the standards and their references to other options. Therefore:

• A fluid ounce in the UK corresponds to 1⁄20 of s pint, 1⁄160 of a gallon, or is equal to approximately 28.4130625 ml;

• This option in the USA means 1⁄16 of a pint, 1⁄128 of a gallon, or nearly 29.5735295625 ml.

Therefore, if you take an American option as a reference point, you should keep in mind that it is 4.08% larger than the British one.

These units are especially popular in perfumery. Thus, you can see an fl.oz designation on perfume bottles. So, what does it mean?

These letters stand for fluid ounce. It can be seen on the packaging of perfumes and other foreign liquid products. As we have already mentioned, a fluid ounce is either 29.6 or 28.4 ml (American or English options respectively).

However, when we talk about product labeling, the volume is usually rounded up to 30 ml. Therefore, when you see inscriptions on the packaging, for instance, 0.12 or 3.3. fl.oz, which means 3.5 or 100 ml of liquid inside. To convert a fluid ounce to milliliters, simply multiply the indicated figure by 30.

How to transform ounces into liters?

Fluid ounces are often compared to milliliters as they are also used for small volumes. Still, you may wonder how many ounces in a liter we have.

To answer this question, we have to remind ourselves that one liter corresponds to 1000 milliliters. That is why, if there are 29.6 ml in 1 ounce, there will be:

1000 / 29.6 = 33.78 ounces in liter.

This is the proper calculation for the American option. Still, there is also a British variant, so, in this case, 1 ounce corresponds to 35.21 liters.

If you need to find out how many ounces are in 2 liters, you should again first decide in which system you will perform the task. The American one will give you:

1000 x 2 / 29.6 = 67.57 ounces in 2 liters.

As for the British units, the number will be a bit bigger, namely 70.42.

However, we still have to remember that these values are approximate and depend on the level of precision that we take for calculations.
